Ap. 1st 1917
Dear May,
Was pleased to get photos of Dome CK picnic & am glad to see that you have learned to manipulate the camera. It reminds me of the last Xmas I was home – the time we caught the ducks. Do you remember waiding through that pool for 3? Mother asked if all my pcls had arrived as evidently some of my letters

had failed to get through. Well as far as I know everything that was posted has reached me alright with the exception of that draught board hanky you sent a long time ago & the last pcl containing balaclava & housewife, the latter however is pretty well sure to come in the course of a week or two. My leave seems as far off

as ever. All leave was temporarily suspended when they were just about to start on our reinft & so far there is no word of it starting again. It is over 15 months now since we landed in Egypt & during that time I have never missed a day from the trenches while our Coy. was in & I have never had a single days leave. Of course we are not here for holiday-making but I reckon I have earned a few days off.

If the war runs for another 12 months I am afraid I’ll be getting a bit tired of it. Anyway I am feeling pretty well & have never had more than a bit of a cold since I joined up. You asked me all about the Lewis Gun but I am afraid censorship regulations forbid. I’ll have a lot to say on this subject when I come home. I think all the district boys are well. Mark saw M. Maher today. I heard he was wounded but it was only a rumour. Am glad to see that 3 of the Cody’s have had to come.
Love to all
Len

P.S. Do you know Fred Hamer’s address?
