Gallipoli landings

Announcement Date: 25/04/1915

The ANZAC Forces land near Ari Burnu at what is now known as Anzac Cove on the 25th April 1915.  The Allies had hoped to sieze control of the Dardanelles Strait to enable naval attacks on Constantinople, however the ANZACs were sent 2km north of their intended landing place.  There they encountered determined Turkish forces and harsh terrain.  They would spend the next few days desperately holding onto their small beachhead.
