Dear Everybody,

Back on Terra Firma again & a bit of a surprise it is to most of us; & to you to I suppose. Well we are supposed to be soldiers now, & take what comes & not be surprised at what it may be, & I think we are getting a pretty good training for a start.  We are encamped on a place called Mirimar, (I think that is spelt right) about three miles out of Well.  A nice piece of ground but very much open to the cold south sea breeze.  The two squadrons & Headquarters staff that were on board the Hawkesbay are the only ones that are here, the other squadn. the 5th. are about two miles further on at a place called Seatown,  & the infantry remain aboard, that is they go aboard at night.  We can thank our lucky stars we did not go outside the harbor the day we were supposed, for it rained & blew like fun & there must have been a big sea running.  Pretty rotten the way things have turned out for Kate, she had to go back the day we came ashore, managed to see her though for about 1 hr. & a half.  Going to Myers tomorrow night.  E.S.McI.
