Dear May,
Have just had letters from Dorrie & Elsie saying they had received a book of views each from you & photos of Berts house & yourself. I suppose they will have written by now themselves. I have had no letter from you for ages I think the last was written in July so there must be some floating around somewhere, I got a few N.Z. letters yesterday including one from Averil dated Sept 2nd. She said Vernon had just arrived in England & was to call on the Hopes but so far I have heard nothing of his visit & unless he has been detained in England for some reason I think he will be out here now. Sounds Irish – I mean his reift is out here so suppose he is. I suppose you will know that Ernie is back in England again. I knew he had landed in France & knew

which Brigade he was going to but could not find out if he had joined up so I wrote to Connie for particulars & found that he is back in England with trench fever. I expect he will be there for the winter now. I don’t know how long it took him to get trench fever, but it seems no time since he was on leave in England. I was rather surprised, he seemed such a hefty big lump, but of course looks don’t count out here. I have a few p.c’s views of Boulonge & local places that I am told will pass the censor so will pack them up & post to you. I have never known the censor to pass views of any sort before except the first few weeks we were in France. There is not much news here. My toe is not too good yet. Had 4 days in Hosp tent then had it massaged for 3 days & now it is all bandaged up stiff with sticking plaster & I have to report to the Dr. again on the 4th day. I think it will be a week or two before it is quite right. The trench feet was the cause of it going crook I reckon. Have heard no particulars about any of the W’side boys lately.
Love to All
Len
P.S. Send my letters to the old address.

I enclose a page out of a “Wide World” mag. that I picked up when I was in St Omer Hosp. Rather strange picking it up out here. Have you heard how Herbert Craig is doing? I have only met him once, about 12 months ago.
