Dear Mother,
Just a line to let you know that I am on the warpath again. I am in 4th Coy 1st O.I.B. this time but expect to be transferred back to 14th when we get out so you can still address my things to 14th. Mark is in 2nd 14th but is also after a transfer. He joined up two days before me so you see we are sticking pretty well together. As you will see by the papers we are doing a bit if a push at present. We have

been going for some time now but I don’t know if we are likely to be relieved for a while. I see by the papers that we have captured Bapaume so I suppose there is no harm in saying I’ve been through the city. About a mile out of the town there is a small Otago cemetery & I noticed the name H.D.A. Hume on one of the graves & suppose it must be Helm, but if so of course you will have heard of it. It was only about 3 miles from there that we were fighting in 1916. I have been hoping for a nice smack to take me to Blighty for the winter but it doesn’t seem to be forthcoming. Saw Mark yesterday. He had about 10 days “growth” on but is enjoying the best of luck. Goodbye just now will write again when I have more time.
Love to all from
Len

Recd your letter of June 18th. The Dick Travis you mention is the same one as I knew. You will see he has lately been killed.
